Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal has finally got his way. The new Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) has been formally accepted by the IITs and various state boards for admission to the undergraduate programmes in Engineering in India. The CBSE too has made an official announcement that the JEE (Main) will replace the AIEEE exam and JEE (Advanced) will replace the IIT-JEE from 2013.
This Joint Entrance Exam (JEE 2013) will be conducted in 2 parts:
- JEE-MAIN
- JEE-ADVANCED
JEE (Main) Examination 2013 (hitherto known as AIEEE - Paper I) for admissions to B.E./B.Tech courses at NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be held in April 2013.
The JEE (Main) (Paper I of earlier AIEEE) for B.E./B.Tech will be held in two modes, viz offline and online (CBT). The offline examination for JEE (Main) will be held on 7th April, 2013 and the online examinations will be held thereafter in April, 2013.
The examination (Paper II of earlier AIEEE) for admissions to B.Arch/B.Planning courses at NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be held on 7th April, 2013 in offline mode only.
The merit list for admission to NITs, IIITs, DTU, Delhi and other CFTIs will be prepared by giving 40% weightage (suitably normalised) to class XII (or equivalent examination) or other qualifying examination marks and 60% to the performance in JEE (Main) Examination.

JEE (Mains) – 2013 Application Dates & JEE Main 2013 Application Forms
Candidates of JEE (Main) - 2013 have to apply online only. The online application forms for both JEE (Main) – 2013 & JEE (Advanced) – 2013 will be available from 8th November 2012 - 15th December 2012.

Any candidate who wants to appear for JEE (Advanced) – 2013 examination must appear for the JEE (Main) – 2013, Paper-1.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE (Main) Exam 2013
The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (MAIN) 2013 is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination (see below). Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination in 2013 may also appear in JEE(MAIN) 2013 provisionally. However, admission criteria in the concerned institution/university will be followed as prescribed by concerned university/institution and as per the guidelines & criteria prescribed by AICTE.
List of Qualifying Examinations for JEE Main 2013
i) The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi
ii) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
iii) Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
iv) Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
v) H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
vi) A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
vii) 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
Exam Pattern for JEE Main 2013
JEE Main 2013 would have the following exam pattern:
- If you’re applying for B.E or B.Tech then you should take Paper 1.
- If you’re applying for B.Arch or B.Planning then you should take Paper 2.
Scoring and Negative Marking in JEE Main 2013
There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response, one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet.
Number of attempts in JEE (Main) Exam
You can attempt to clear the JEE (Main) Exam three (3) times in consecutive years.
This would mean that the candidates who passed their +2 exam in 2011 or 2012 or who are appearing for their +2 exams in 2013 are only eligible to appear in JEE (Main)2013.
Candidates who passed their +2 in 2010 or before or who are appearing for their +2 exams in 2014 are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2013.
